Twin Peninsulas Paddling Getaway - Nov 2 to 7, 2021
The Surf Safari is one of Australia's longest-running endurance events and 2021 will mark its 53rd edition. Open to all forms of surf and ocean craft, the full course in typical southerly conditions takes competitors from Tinderbox Reserve near Bruny Island, around Pearsons Point and up the Derwent River towards Hobart. Along the way competitors can experience water with very different characteristics, making the Surf Safari one of the most interesting, exciting and rewarding open water events on the Australia Ocean Racing Series calendar.
Our inaugural Twin Peninsulas Paddling Getaway will be run in the lead-up to this year's Surf Safari, offering participants the chance to fully explore the diversity of surfski paddling available in South East Tasmania, and helping you bridge the gap between your current level and competing in the event with confidence.
During this Paddling Getaway you'll be introduced step by step to the key sections of the Surf Safari course, gaining experience and honing your skills in order to take part in the event on November 6th. You'll learn valuable off-water techniques to accelerate your familiarisation with the water and save you physical and mental energy in the lead-up to the race. Our support for Twin Peninsulas Paddling Getaway participants will be holistic and extend all the way through to race day, with plenty of coaching sessions, stretching and injury prevention, course review and discussion, and assistance with start/finish logistics. We'll also be using our extensive knowledge of the local area by taking you to some of our favourite spots for a series of clinics and adventurous paddles designed to focus on the key elements of surfski - technique, downwind, beach & open water skills.
Along the way we'll help you break down the barriers that we all face when tackling a new or challenging event, or any unfamiliar section of water. We know these challenges all too well through a lifetime of travelling and paddlesport competition away from our island home. Now, after an enforced year away from running Getaways in 2020, we are really looking forward to new adventures in Tasmania's wild places and showcasing the best paddling our home State has to offer.
This Getaway would suit early-stage and intermediate paddlers wanting to venture into new areas, or anyone following on from our East Coast Tasmania Getaway immediately beforehand. We welcome both local and visiting paddlers for this trip and can't wait to show you the special places we love!
We have a limited number of places available for this trip. For reservations and more information please check out this link or contact us.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
