Summer racing is BACK!

Introducing the Hobart Twilight Series, a collaboration between the Derwent Canoe Club and Next Level Kayaking. We are aiming to bring you a fun, challenging and inclusive set of events catering for competitive and developing paddlers alike. Our combined resources will deliver a top-notch experience for everyone, from online registration, course setting, water safety, timekeeping, results, volunteer availability and support for new competitors.

The series includes 5 events on Thursday evenings and 1 event on Australia Day throughout spring, summer and autumn 2020/21. Thursday evening events will involve a briefing at 6.00pm and a start time of 6.15pm, encouraging an "after work" vibe with plenty of fresh air, exercise and good times with paddling friends.

Three divisions will be available (approx 10-12km, 8-9km and 4-6km) with first time participation encouraged and gear hire available for early stage paddlers. There are no age, gender or craft categories to worry about during registration...simply enter any of the 3 divisions and your results will be recorded on this basis. As the series builds, categories will form and appropriate series points will be curated by the organisers.

Let's get together and celebrate paddling in beautiful Hobart, get among some sea breezes, and spend time doing the sport we love at the end of a long and challenging year!

Round 1 - Thursday 29th October @ southern end Kingston Beach
Round 2 - Thursday 26th November @ southern end Long Beach
Round 3 - Tuesday 26th January (Australia Day) @ southern end Long Beach TBC
Round 4 - Thursday 11th February @ southern end Kingston Beach
Round 5 - Thursday 11th March @ southern end Long Beach
Round 6 - Thursday 1 April @ southern end Kingston Beach

Each location offers a sheltered southern "wedge" of water and a more exposed northern section in classic sea breeze conditions, both have bad weather options shielded from offshore winds, and both are close to ample parking with local food and drink options for those all important post-event debriefs!

We will normally run a sheltered course for Division 3, and a more exposed course with a maximised downwind section for Divisions 1 and 2. Courses will normally be triangular or rectangular in shape, allowing safety craft to patrol from a central point with full visibility.

Each location presents something different, one is an urban paddling paradise with wind chop, currents and sea walls to contend with, while the other gives a sense of nature and a taste of the open ocean with longer runs, cliffs and a gentle shorebreak.

Of course to take out the overall series in your respective division and be considered for the inaugural "most improved" Hobart Twilight Series award you'll have to paddle in as many events as possible!

Please contact us or check out our Facebook page for more information.

We look forward to seeing you at Kingston on the 29th for Round 1!
