Join us on January 26th for a fun and rewarding paddlesport event - the 2019 National Pies Kayak Challenge!
This is a spectator-friendly paddlesport event with a difference, involving tight, multi-lap criterium-style courses.
The event accommodates everyone from experienced racers through to inexperienced paddlers who have never raced before - with 3 divisions and distances on offer participants can choose their challenge:
DIVISION 1 (14km)
DIVISION 2 (10km)
DIVISION 3 (6km)
Age categories for each division will be Junior (U18), Open (up to 35 years), Masters (up to 45 years), Veteran (up to 55 years) and Super Veteran (55 years and over) for both Women and Men.
We will be running a sheltered course for Division 3, and a more exposed course with a maximised downwind section for Divisions 1 and 2. All courses will be triangular or rectangular in shape (depending on the conditions on the day), allowing safety craft to patrol from a central point with full visibility.
We are encouraging participants to enter the 2019 event early. Online entries are available up until midnight on January 25th, after which entries (both online and manual) will incur an additional $5 per category.
We are very grateful to National Pies for again sponsoring this year’s event. National Pies are a Tasmanian tradition and have been locally baked for over 70 years. Thanks to their generosity we are able to offer $500 prizemoney, which will be equally distributed across Division, Female, Male and Age categories. This will recognise top performances in each and every category, and give as many participants as possible the chance to win back their entry fee. Prizemoney left over from empty categories will be added to a random draw pool on the day, and half of the random giveaways will be reserved for paddlers who have travelled from outside the greater Hobart area to participate in the event.
Participants, friends and family members at the 2019 National Pies Kayak Challenge will be able to enjoy the activities and action of the Sandy Bay Regatta all day long alongside the paddling events.
The event is proudly organised by Next Level Kayaking in conjunction with the Sandy Bay Regatta.
