Adventure Paddle - Maria Island Tasmania

Want to see more of beautiful Tasmania by surfski? Our weekend Adventure Paddles will get you off the beaten “track”, broaden your horizons and develop your skills. Adventure Paddles are a fantastic way to see new sights and break out of the normal routine, with an emphasis on fun, safe and challenging downwind expeditions and open water trips. You’ll be surprised at some of these stunning paddling venues only a stones throw away from Hobart.

Adventure Paddles are run on a semi-regular basis according to weather forecast. We normally plan and communicate trip details 3-5 days out. Please contact us or check our Facebook page for up-to-date information prior to purchasing.

We recommend booking Adventure Paddles online to guarantee a place. We need all participants to confirm their participation the day before each trip.

Course description:

This trip will depart from the white sands and light blue waters of Rheban Beach, just south of Orford. We'll immediately be faced with a shallow and current-affected crossing to Lachlan Island, with several reefs to negotiate before forging on towards Maria Island. Our navigation across the Mercury Passage will be challenged by the wind, waves and current. From here we'll make our way north, before finishing with a downwind run to the sandbar at the southern end of Carrickfergus Bay, where there will be a mix of rolling pointbreak and confused chop to play and develop your balance in...all in waist deep or chest deep water. A short punt across the bay back to Rheban Beach will complete a stunning afternoon of paddling. This is one of our most adventurous trips, a few kilometres from civilisation but seemingly a world away when you're out there gazing up at Bishop and Clerk. An ideal opportunity for paddlers to perform their first significant channel crossing...this is a place where the water comes alive!
