Packrafting is an increasingly popular activity on our rivers, lakes and estuaries. Stable, portable and lightweight, packrafts are used for both paddling and hiking adventures alike. Packrafts are often used during expeditions to link previously inaccessible or difficult routes across land and water. The speed and handling characteristics of modern packrafts are becoming similar to hard shell kayaks, with designs evolving rapidly to suit a growing number of paddlers.

Our Introductory Packrafting Course focuses on flatwater and coastal environments, giving participants a strong foundation of basic skills from which to progress into rivers, moving water and other areas. Held on Browns Rivulet and the Kingston Beach foreshore this 3 hour course will cover packrafting equipment, how to pack, unpack & maintain your gear, efficient forward paddling technique, turning strokes, launching and landing, solo and assisted rescues, and how to handle wind and small waves. All gear (packraft, paddle, PFD, tether) is provided for you at this course, just wear something that will keep you comfortable while on the water! No previous paddling or packrafting experience is necessary to participate in this course.

This course is coached by Dan Hall, who won a 2021 Paddle Australia Instructor of the Year award for his packrafting tuition. A maximum of 7 paddlers per course ensures a high level of personal attention as you learn and develop. Introductory Packrafting Course participants will be eligible for a 10% reduction on a basic packrafting kit package (our range of Kokopelli packrafts, paddle, PFD and helmet combo) valid for one month after the course.
